Bathing A Newborn Baby

February 5th, 2009
Sinead Hoben asked:

Do you want your baby handed to you immediately after the birth or should he be cleaned first? In recent years most babies were wiped down with a towel immediately after birth before mum or dad got a chance to hold them. Nowadays choice is the keyword! It’s your decision.

Research shows that the greasy film covering your baby, vernix, is a wonderful source of moisture for your baby’s delicate skin. And if you don’t wipe it off, it is reabsorbed. So your baby will be less likely to develop dry skin patches. Pre-term babies have much more of this protective layer than full-term babies.

In the womb your baby is submerged in amniotic fluid, so vernix is absolutely necessary for providing waterproof protection. After birth, however, mother nature may need a helping hand!

Returning home can be daunting for new parents. Giving baby his first bath can be terrifying!

Your baby does not need a special bath although many parents are well tooled up for the new arrival. A clean sink or the big bath will suffice!

Probably the main worry for parents is getting the water temperature correct. After ensuring you have all baby’s bits and bobs at hand, such as a changing mat, towel, fresh nappy, vest and clean clothes, place the baby in a safe place.

Run cold water into the bath first.

Top it up with hot water. Swirl the water around to avoid hot spots.

Dip your elbow into the water to check the temperature. It should be lukewarm. As the skin on your elbow is very sensitive it is a reliable way to test the water.

If you like you can add a little moisturising, hypoallergenic, baby bubble bath. Swirl it around with your fingers. Young babies do not need bubbles to play with!

Undress and wrap baby in a warm towel. Holding him over the bath, cup some bath water in your free hand and gently run it over his head. Shampoo is not necessary for very tiny babies as it can irritate their scalp.

Dry the baby’s head thoroughly. Babies lose a lot of heat through their heads. Wet heads lose more heat.

Placing baby’s neck in the crook of your elbow, and your hand holding the back of one of his legs, gently lower him into the water. (TIP If you are right-handed it is easier to place babies neck in the crook of your left elbow. Holding his left leg with your left hand, wash him with your right hand. The reverse is the case if you are left-handed.)

Some babies hate being bathed but many really enjoy it. He may become so relaxed that he falls asleep!

Cupping some water in your free hand gently trickle it over his body. Your do not need to rub or scrub as babies do not get dirty. They just need to be freshened up!

Be careful as he will get very slippery once he is wet!

Only keep baby in the bath for a short time as he will get cold quickly and never leave your baby unattended in the bath for even the shortest space of time.

Lift him out and wrap him up in his warm towel.

Quickly dry him and place a fresh nappy on him before he has any little accidents!

Finally, give him a big cuddle and dress him quickly…

And there you have it - baby’s first bath!

Beauty Tips - Relax The Stress Away With Bath Bubbles

February 1st, 2009
Debrah Dragon asked:

So you are back home after a long and tiring day at work. You probably feel as if the life has been sucked out of you. But unfortunately there is an important event you need to attend for which you are just in no mood for after you have slogged at work.

There is hardly anything better after a really stressful day than getting into a nice hot bath filled to the top with invigorating and relaxing bath bubbles. If you thought bath bubbles were just for kids, boy are you in for a big surprise. Even as adults, a bubble filled bath can be just as big of a treat as it was when you were a kid, only this time, you don’t play with the bubbles, unless you want to of course! Bubbles are a natural form of hydrotherapy, and combined with a lengthy soap in hot water, you’ll literally feel the stress and any aches and pains start to melt away. By the time the last of the water is let out the drain, you should feel completely rejuvenated and ready to face another day.

Bath bubbles can help eliminate the stress of the day, help you relax, and ease the tension you feel within your body. At the same time, it opens your senses as you delight in the various smells that could all be yours, depending on which fragrance you opt for.

Bath bubbles come in a variety of scents and can be purchased in fragrance sets to really allow you to run away with your favorite smells, literally. Treat yourself to a relaxing mini spa right at home with your favorite scents of bath oils, bath salts, bath bubbles, candles, soaps, and so much more.

Fill the tub up with comfortable temperature water for relaxing,(hot is usually best but don’t make it so hot that you can’t stand it comfortably!) mix in your favorite bath bubbles, light some candles, grab your bath pillow and settle in for a nice, long, relaxing bath. Of course, if you really want to add to the relaxation, take your book along for some reading time, and put on some soft music as well!

Your bath time should be your escape time, make the most of it. Tell the family you don’t want to be bothered and take an hour or so for yourself. Your body, mind, and senses will definitely thank you for it. So take this opportunity to enjoy yourself and immerse your self in a world of energy. After a bubble bath you wont have time for sleep, because now you are ready to hit the streets feeling younger, energetic and fresh.

A hot tub filled with bath bubbles are a great way to relax sore muscles. Specially if you just returned back from gym after an hour long exercise and you need to get ready for work. Bubble baths will end up making you feel a good if not better than new.

Enjoy your bath bubbles like you did when you were a kid, only take time now to enjoy them on a relaxing level. You can still play with them if you want, you are never too old to play with bath toys and bubbles! And you know what to do when you get home from work today.

How To Create Heavenly Organic Bath Treats

January 25th, 2009
Louise Forrest asked:

Who said that wonderfully relaxing baths had to be full of chemicals? Homemade bath products guarantee that you know the ingredients your bath products have in them and save you on cost.

Just remember that ingredients should all be organic to keep from inadvertently exposing yourself to unwanted chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and preservatives. Following are four decadent bath recipes you are sure to enjoy!

Relaxing Bubble Bath:

This recipe can be changed to suit your tastes or moods. Here we have used rose essential oil, but other essential oils (or a blend) may be used instead. For example, peppermint oil will invigorate you while the lavender tends to relax - just substitute your preferred oil in place of the rose oil in the recipe. Mix all ingredients and store in an easy pour container (a gallon jug is great). Pour a small amount in running bath water.

Ingredients

8 cups (1/2 gallon) distilled water

8 oz (2 bars) castille soap, grated moisturizer/softener that can be found in health food stores or on the internet)

3/4 cup liquid glycerin (moisturizer/softener that can be found in health food stores or on the internet)

1 1/2 teaspoons rose essential oil (essential oils can be found in health food stores and on the internet, just be sure that they are produced from organically produced base plants)

Super moisturizing Strawberry Delight:

This is a great summertime bath because strawberries are readily available. However, if you can get them in the winter, this bath is an awesome pick me up from the wintertime blues and dry skin. Between the castor oil and fresh cream, this bath is an excellent way to combat dry skin, so substitution of essential oils or frozen strawberries in place of fresh strawberries can be done if strawberries are not available.

Essential oils can be purchased at most heath food stores or on the internet, you just want to be sure that they are produced from organically grown base plants. If you choose to substitute essential oils for the strawberries, use the 2nd version of ingredients listed below.

Ingredients (1st version)

1 1/2 tablespoons castor oil

3/4 cup organic cream (heavy)

3/4 cup fresh organic strawberries

3 cups distilled water

Ingredients (2nd version)

1 1/2 tablespoons castor oil

1 1/4 cups organic cream (heavy)

1 teaspoon essential oil of your choice

3 1/2 cups distilled water

For either version, blend ingredients on high until smooth and creamy. Place 1/2 of the mixture in an airtight container and refrigerate (use within 1 week) and use the other 1/2 of the mixture immediately. All you have to do now is pour the creamy mixture into running bath water, stir a bit, and enjoy!

Soothing Lavender Bath:

This is a great bath for any season because of its skin soothing qualities from the baking soda and oat flour ingredients. Both of these are known for helping calm itch, therefore soothing irritated skin. In summer, this means relief from insect bites and allergies, in the winter it means relief from dry, winter skin. This bath is also helpful for soothing chicken pox and measles. This bath is easily used when stored in an airtight cereal container.

Ingredients

1 cup baking soda

1 1/2 cups organic lavender, dried and crushed (found in health food stores or on the internet)

3 cups organic oat flour ((found in health food stores)

Mix ingredients in a large bowl until all ingredients are thoroughly dispersed and store mixture in airtight cereal container. Use 1/2 to 1 cup in bathwater, depending on bathtub size. For added relaxation, add 1 teaspoon lavender essential oil to your bath along with this mixture.

Vanilla Delight Bath Cookies:

These will smell terrific and the ingredients are not harmful, but you will not want to eat them, trust us on this one! Dissolve 2 or 3 of them in your bath water for a delightfully relaxing experience.

Ingredients

1 cup baking soda

1 1/4 cup cornstarch

4 large eggs

4 cups sea salt (finely ground)

1 1/2 teaspoons pure organic vanilla extract

3 tablespoons organic vegetable oil

2 teaspoons organic vitamin E oil

You will be making these like most cookies. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix all ingredients, forming a very stiff dough. Rolls into 1 inch balls and place on a non-greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake until golden brown (about 10 or 12 minutes). Cool completely before removing from cookie sheet. Store your organic bath cookies in Mason Jars (canning jars).

Water-bath Canning Vs. Pressure Canning

January 23rd, 2009
Jonathan Heusman asked:

When choosing how to pickle or what pickle recipe’s you would like to try, there are a number of things you want to keep in mind. One of those things is which canning method you would like to use. Home canning is a very simple process that can be done in two ways: pressure canning, or water-bath canning. Pressure canning is a process that requires a pressure canner, which can be often times, be expensive. You may however be able to find a cheap one with a little bit of hunting through garage sales or flea markets. Water-bath canning, on the other hand, can be done using only a couple of simple tools. We will assume that you will be using a water-bath canning method. The following article will explain this particular method.

Firstly, of course you will need a water-bath canner. You must make sure it is deep enough to hold enough water to submerge your canning jars by at least 1 inch. You will also need your canning jars, screw-on bands, and canning lids. It is the much-less-expensive, tried-and-true way of canning. It is a way of preserving hundreds of foods, including salsa, jam, jelly, pickled fruits and vegetables, as well as relish for hundreds of years. It is a great canning method for beginners, or avid canners.

A water-bath canner is basically a large pot with a rack that will hold up to seven mason quart jars or up to sixteen pint jars. By using a large stock pot and being creative with wire, one could improvise a rack to create their own water bath canner. As long as the jars avoid direct heat from the burner and are completely submersed in the water, a number of crafty setups could be used. If you would like to save the trouble of rigging your own, they can be readily purchased at many locations or online.

The way a water-bath canner functions is that it increases the temperature of your canning jar to a temperature hot enough to kill yeast, bacteria, and molds that are found in food. The heat also creates air bubbles that push the air inside the jar out as the contents inside the jar heat and expand. When the jar cools down to room temperature, the air pressure creates a seal that prevents air and other organisms from entering the jar, preventing the food from spoiling, thus the reason for canning’s existence.

It is essential that the jars are free of nicks or cracks and that the rim is flat. They should also be newly washed, either by hand or dishwasher, so they are sterile and free of any micro-organisms. The process begins by filling the canning jar with the desired ingredients. Make sure to wipe the rim clean with a laundered towel so as to create an ideal seal. Place the lid on the rim, making sure to center it so that the rubber is on the entire rim and then screw on the band. The band does not need to be screwed on tightly; over-tightened bands do not allow the gasses to escape the jars. Then you will place the jars into the water-bath on the rack. Make sure the water is covering all of the jars by at least one inch and then bring the water to a boil. When finished, turn off heat and let sit for a full five minutes before removing jars from the canner. Be sure to let the canning jars cool, so as not to burn yourself.

As the canning jars cool off, the tops should pop closed as they seal, meaning that; after sealing the tops will not depress by pressing down on with your finger. If the jars are not sealed, the center of the lid will pop up and down when pressed. Either throw these jars away or eat the contents within a week. If the lids did not seal, do not use them again as they will not seal if used again.

Once the jars are cooled they may be stored. It is best if they are stored in a cool dark place like a basement or pantry. Contents will be ready to eat according to the recipe. Make sure that before eating, the contents are inspected for signs of spoilage: mold, gas, cloudiness, odors, or drainage. If spoilage has occurred, do not eat the contents of the can as it may cause serious sickness.

Here is a simple pickling recipe for you to try out!

Delicious Pickles:

Wash cucumbers, pack into sterilized canning jars.

Solution (sufficient for 3 gallons of pickles in glass jars):

1 gallon vinegar

1 cup salt

½ pound (16 tablespoons) dry mustard, make sure to fully mix the dry mustard in with vinegar so that there are no clumps. A good way to do this is to take a little vinegar and make a paste type of substance with the dry mustard, then mix this into the vinegar.

Pour mixture over cucumbers in your sterilized jars and seal at once (Using the method of your choice.). Store pickles without removing screw bands.

I hope that this helps you to choose your method of pickling, and make sure to head on over to my homepage for many more pickling tips and recipes. Also visit the forums to share info with other picklers.

Creating Your Dream Family Bath

January 20th, 2009
Casey Madisson asked:

Family bath time can be a great way to socialize and have fun with your family. This article will show you how to create your own theme and ambience for your very own family bath.

Consider kids and teenagers or young adults when you pick out a theme. Most of your family members may be more interested in one particular theme over others.

You can start with cultural themes. This theme is more general and so is easier to start with if you are new to arranging your very own family bath. Probably the most common cultural theme is the Oriental theme. Citrus baths are popular in Asian culture. Citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and limes are known to soothe and treat minor illnesses such as colds and flu. Interestingly, these fruits are also used in baths for the same purpose. Not only do they have healing properties, they also have the ability to rejuvenate the senses. Imagine the aroma of fresh oranges floating around you. It is refreshing and the fruits naturally cleanse both the body and mind.

How to make a citrus bath:

There are many ways to create the citrus bath. Purchase those small tangerines from your local supermarket. Wash each of them and let them float in your tub. This creates a playful mood for your family bath. You can buy other citrus fruits and beat them into a pulp and use as an “effervescent.” Just for fun, you can cut the peels up into shapes of stars, hearts, petals or simple oblongs.

If you are a young family and have very young kids, or if you have mostly girls in your family, you can create your own milk bath. The milk bath is popular between everyone because of its positive effect on the skin. Cleopatra made the milk bath famous! The girls will absolutely love the milk’s smoothening effect. The texture of milk is soothing to the skin and makes it amazingly soft after the family bath. The kids will also surely enjoy a family bath that is interestingly made out of their usual drink!

How to make a milk bath:

You can use ready-made milk bath powder sold in most department stores to start your milk bath theme. These milk bath powders are usually a combination of powdered milk and effervescent salts. Or, you can use 3 to 4 cups of regular milk. You may then add some honey for fragrance or oats. Food coloring and milk creates pastel colors!

Ideas can be limitless with family baths. After all, a family bath should be carefree and fun. Think of jungle themes, where you can place herbs, seaweed, botanical leaves and “mud” scrubs and facials. Don’t end there! You are sure to find ideas everywhere.

Finally, enhance your surroundings with candles, plants, blowing bubbles, bath toys, or even music. Celebrate birthdays, share ideas, or simply talk about past memories and happenings during the day in your very own family bath.

Create Luxurious Bath And Body Products With Natural Fragrance Oils

January 18th, 2009
Sherry Frewerd asked:

I don’t know about you, but I’m as hooked on bath and body products as I’m going to get! I can’t pass the aisle at Wal-Mart without taking a look. Trips to the mall have become half hour events in the Bath and Body store. Gift buying for female friends and family is now a much anticipated outing because I can wander over to the bubble bath and lotion and pick up a little something extra for myself while I’m buying their present!

Now that there are private label bath and body product businesses online, the adventure never ends. I have found some of the most wonderful products from small, online specialty shops that can’t be found in stores or malls. Many of these darling businesses, such as ‘Marlo Quinn’ and others like it, hand-make and design their own soaps, lotions, bubble baths and other personal care products, most using all-natural, or mostly natural ingredients.

Ever wonder if you could make some of your own bath and body products at home? I know, most of you will audibly laugh at the idea of even having the time to take a bubble bath, much less actually making something you’d want to put in your bath water and sit in! Ok, I get it. You’re busy. But just imagine that you have a few minutes one weekend and get the ingredients together to make your own deliciously scented, natural spa products. Wouldn’t that leave you with a warm sense of accomplishment and ultimately a warm, frothy bubble bath or scrubby facial mask?

Let’s assume you go with option number two, and make a date with yourself to create something wonderful. Hey, you could even go as far as getting together some like-minded (bath product enthusiasts) friends, chill some good wine and make a party out of it! Everyone can take home their creations and report back later as to the overall effect and results. I can make a party out of just about anything these days.

So, here is an easy and yummy smelling home-made soap recipe to get you started and in the mood for more. You’ll want to gather your ingredients a few days in advance. Have fun!

‘A’ is for Apple Soap

4oz. clear, unscented glycerine soap

1 Tablespoon liquid soap

1 teaspoon liquid glycerine

1/2 teaspoon Apple Fragrance Oil

2 drops Red Food Color

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Melt soap in small pan over low heat. Add Liquid soap and glycerine and stir well gently Add fragrance, color and cinnamon. Stir and let stand a couple minutes, until you see it start to thicken and the cinnamon is mixed evenly. Pour into molds such as muffin tins or character candy or soap molds. Allow to set completely and store in zip lock storage bags.

When the soaps are all set, they make great little gifts for special occasions. How cute would they be as a ‘Teacher Gift’ at Christmas time, especially if you use ‘apple’ molds. There are more home-made recipes and ideas at ‘Natural You Mineral Makeup and Skincare.com’.

An Ionic Foot Bath To Rebalance, Detox And Alkalize The Body

January 15th, 2009
Willie Jones asked:

Definition of Alkaline:

Webster’s Collegiate dictionary defines it as such; (of, relating to, or having the properties of alkali esp: having a ph of more than 7.) PH stands for; potential of hydrogen. Fluids in your body that have a ph of 6.5 to 7 or 7.5 is considered neutral.

What is Acidosis?

Acidosis is defined by the Webster’s New World Dictionary as; (a condition in which the alkali reserves in the body is lower than normal.) Too much acid in the system creates abnormalities and dysfunction and is a breeding ground for unwanted intruders that cause cell degeneration.

According to Dr. Theodore Baroody, author of Alkalize or Die, says that ACIDOSIS is the basic foundation of all disease!

A body with a ph of 7.5, (75% alkaline and 25% acidic) is a healthy individual whose immune system can operate at its peak and will experience little health problems. It’s when the alkali reserves are mostly used up that we start to experience health problems. It can start out with simple manifestations such as acne, bloating, mild headaches all the way to major diseases such as liver or kidney disease, heart conditions and even cancer. The body’s condition depends on how long it has been acidic. (You can go to any drug store and buy nitrazine strips that tell you what PH level your body is at).

Diet is the main culprit along with environmental toxicity. In the name of greed and profit we have been systematically brainwashed into believing that when you are buying processed food loaded with chemicals, pesticides and modifies foods, that, what you are eating is safe for human consumption. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Before we started altering food, fruits and vegetables were consumed in their natural nutrient rich forms in earth’s mineral rich soil. Meat was consumed by animals that ate pesticide free grasses and leaves. We ate nutrient rich foods and breathed clean fresh air.

If you look at the average American today you’ll see an abundance of pasty, overweight or obese individuals that are sorely in need of an overhaul. Our toxic food sources, water and air are an unfortunate way of life. Our bodies may seem full after we eat but may be starving for actual nutrients we need for normal function let alone healing.

One solution to alkalize and rebalance your system is an ionic footbath system can be of benefit.

An ionic footbath has gained popularity over the last few years but in actuality Rife’s early research in the 1930s has brought us this workable technology.

How does the ionic footbath work?

A module is placed in a tub of clean water and a good grade sea salt. When the system is turned on you will immediately notice a bubbling action due to a controlled electrical current that courses through the water breaking it up. This breaking up of water molecules causes an electron to be displaced from its host which in turn makes it seek out another oxygen molecule. When it does, a negative ion is produced. Negative ions are a very powerful antioxidant and deliver more oxygen to the body. Negative ions alkalize and balance the body which is important for the body to begin healing itself. (Disease can only grab hold in an acidic environment.)

When you alkalize the body it can then begin the process of detoxifying the body through the liver, kidneys, skin etc. and rebuild healthy tissues.

Positive ions are a result of an atom or molecule that’s lost an electron. Free radicals are unpaired electrons and the result is degeneration. When you sit in front of a computer for any length of time you are bombarded with positive ions and that is why you can feel so fatigued and droopy or spaced out. Even living in a city you experience more positive ions. Have you noticed that when you drive out to the country or walk through a forest and breathe clean fresh air or smell that fresh rainfall, you feel better? That is because you are getting more negative ions.

A classic example of a place that is heavily bombarded with negative ions is Niagara Falls. People often go there and feel serene and wonderful. It’s not only because it is a beautiful location but the tremendous power of the water crashing to the bottom is constantly breaking up the molecules and the amount of negative ions are in such abundance that you feel wonderful just being there. An ionic footbath creates that same environment for you so that your body can begin to feel better and be more alert. A foot bath is not a medical device but rather a boost to speed along the recovery process.

What does discoloration of the water mean?

The color changes in the water will occur with or without feet due to the reactions taking place between the module, current and minerals. Their may be some detoxification taking place at the time of the session but color change of the water is not the product you are looking for, although it is very interesting. What is more important is the rebalancing of your system and how you feel after 1 or 2 or 10 or how ever many sessions you need to get the desired result.

Rejuvenate and rebalance and alkalize your system and feel better. You don’t have to be the effect of your environment anymore. A combination of an ionic foot bath, change in diet and moderate exercise can have a dramatic effect on your health.

The benefits Of An Aromatherapy Bath

January 13th, 2009
Lorna Findlay asked:

herapy also advocates practices of taking bath using one of those exotic essential oils; for many of us, a hot and relaxing bath is both a way to calm down tired bodies and relieve stress. Further more, a few moments to think, ponder, contemplate and meditate can create wonders for the mind and body. A hot bath with one of your favorite oils adds a new experience to your life, which is otherwise straining and equally boring. Essential oils also called “oil of life”, is soothing and refreshing, when added to your bath tub. Thus, these oils compel us to think over using them at least once a day to feel invigorated. Using the bath as an innovative way of administering Aromatherapy is one of the best for numerous reasons.

Your entire dull skin gets a layer of pure essential oils. The misty vapors rising from the hot water enters your olfactory system and lungs. Your mind will be clear and calm, allowing you to concentrate on yourself and the essential oil treatment. It means essential oils bring a celestial experience to your bath room. The hot bath now makes you, in fact, makes you sweat and tired added with a treatment of oils.

Mandatory sleep or renewed vigor will soon follow such a refreshing treatment. Apart from these soothing effects, you can even adjust the level of essential oils to treat some of your skin conditions like acne and scabies. Another advantage of using aromatic oil is relieving your nervous conditions by making your mental constitution stronger and calmer. Some essential oils are known to be very romantic in nature; few drops your favorite oil will help you and your spouse to relax allowing passionate moments to overflow. It can also simply be used to aid in your enjoyment of your bath, to feel the balminess of flowing water.

Using essential oils in the bath is as simple as adding 10 drops just before you enter the tub. You can add, perhaps, lavender or Rose oils or intricately add concocted bath oil containing a number of oils. It is purely personal and you can choose your favorite oil. Floral oils like jasmine or rose oils, usually make perfect bath concoctions, but one can feel free to use a particular oil or blend for conditions they wish to help.

The good effects of aromatherapy bath directly seeps in to respiratory, skin and nervous system to reduce problems. It is also discovered that joint problems and muscle pain can also be greatly helped.

Though soaps and candles containing real, pure aromatic oils can be beneficial too, nothing compares the advantage of direct contact of essential oils with the bath water. You must note its high volatility and instability, so it is prudent, when using them in the bath and add those drops just before you are ready to enter. You must also trap all those steam vapors by making sure that you draw close the shower curtains. This single action will make sure you are reaping the benefits of the essential oils before they evaporate with the hot steam.

Any bath oils containing extracts of Vitamin E, when added to your favorite aromatic oil, can help the essential oil to linger on the surface of the water faster and usually can be placed under hot running water. If you want to create a lively bubble bath setting or special bath, add a bit of dried milk, a bit of good quality hand soap and fresh rose petals plus your oil. Women will find bathing in rosemary water to be particularly beneficial after a stressful day and/or PMS symptoms. Men can use a pungent orange or ylang-ylang, especially in the morning to get them started for a day of work.

Aromatherapy oils and their usage are gaining lots of popularity among beauty conscious people of the world; many personal care industries are using more essential oils in their bathing products, than ever before.

Soaking Bathtubs - True Bathing Luxury

January 13th, 2009
Frank Johnson asked:

How luxurious is your bathtub? Is it roomy enough for more than one person or is it so small you can’t even stretch your legs in it? Chances are that unless you have kids, your bathtub is rarely even used. Instead it basically functions as the drain for your shower. So why even have a bathtub if you can’t use it? Bathtubs allow for long, soothing soaks – giving your body the chance to relax and repair. However, if your bathtub isn’t big enough for even a basic bath, you’re missing out on the finer things in life.

Soaking Bathtubs - the Only Way to Bath

If you want the opportunity to relax in your own tub or share a romantic glass of champagne with a loved one, you need to upgrade your tub to a soaking bathtub. Soaking bathtubs are basically tubs that allow you to, well, soak. They are much larger and deeper than standard bathtubs, allowing you to completely submerge your body. They also are much roomier and more giving when it comes to occupancy. Soaking bathtubs are great for long relaxing baths after a hard days work and of course, for bubble baths. Soaking bathtubs don’t necessarily come with fancy whirlpool attachments and gizmos, but they do offer much more versatility, capacity, and function.

Options and Styles

Soaking bathtubs come in a number of different variations. Some lay flat on the ground while others have vintage-styled claw feet. Some are even made of special materials that help keep warm water warm longer and won’t chip over time. However, the overall beauty of soaking bathtubs is their style. They normally aren’t intended to be boxed in or placed in a framework; rather, they stand alone. As a result, you need to make sure your bathroom has the capacity to contain such a tub. In some cases, the plumbing will need to be altered to handle the faucet and drain configuration. However, the luxury and comfort soaking bathtubs bring to your bathroom make it all worth it.

How to Select Your Soaking Tub

If you want to renovate your bathroom and install a brand new soaking bathtub, you need to verify a few things. First off, you need to make sure you have room for a soaking tub. Soaking bathtubs tend to be much larger than your standard tubs, so measure the space you have and then see what options are available to you. You also want to check your plumbing. As mentioned prior, you may need to reconfigure some pipes to accommodate a new tub. If you’re unsure, check with a professional plumber. And finally, you need to make sure your floor can handle the extra weight. Since soaking bathtubs are often larger and hold much more water than your standard tub, there is more weight involved. In most cases, this won’t be an issue; but depending on the condition of your home, you might want to consult a home inspector just to check the integrity of your bathroom. Years and years of water damage can weaken a floor. The worst thing you could do is install a tub without checking and end up structural damage or cracked floors.

If you want to experience what it’s like to soak for hours in a nice warm bath, then you need a soaking bathtub. Soaking bathtubs give you much more leg room and are often roomy enough to accommodate more than one person. So if you want to bring luxury into your bathroom, get a soaking bathtub.
